    Health & Wellbeing FAQs

How can you promote mental wellbeing at work?

Promoting mental wellbeing at work can be achieved by fostering a supportive environment, offering resources such as counselling services, encouraging work-life balance, and providing regular mental health training and awareness programmes.

Open communication, flexible working arrangements, and promoting a culture where mental health is openly discussed and supported also contribute significantly to employee wellbeing.

How can you measure wellbeing at work?

Wellbeing at work can be measured through employee surveys and feedback, monitoring absenteeism and turnover rates, and assessing productivity levels.

Other methods include conducting regular one-on-one meetings to gauge employee satisfaction, using wellbeing assessments or indices, and analysing data from health-related programmes or initiatives.

These measures help identify areas for improvement and track the effectiveness of wellbeing strategies.

What is a staff wellbeing policy?

A staff wellbeing policy is a formal document that outlines an organisation’s commitment to supporting the physical, mental, and emotional health of its employees. It details the strategies, resources, and practices in place to promote a positive work environment and ensure the overall wellbeing of the workforce.

How can I create a wellbeing strategy?

To create a wellbeing strategy, assess employee needs, set clear objectives, and identify resources and initiatives that support physical, mental, and emotional health.

Implement the strategy with management support, communicate it to staff, and regularly review its effectiveness to make necessary adjustments.

    What is wellbeing?

Wellbeing is the state of being comfortable, healthy, and happy, encompassing both physical and mental health. It involves maintaining a balance that allows individuals to cope effectively with daily stresses, work productively, and contribute to their community.

Do employers have a duty of care for mental health?

Yes. Employers have a ‘duty of care’ under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

This means they are legally and morally obligated to ensure a safe work environment that supports employees’ mental wellbeing, including preventing work-related stress and providing appropriate support.
