Introduction

Praxis42 was appointed as ESG consulting partner to Kurt Geiger, as part of their Environmental, Social and Governance continuous improvement approach.

Kurt Geiger had an established approach to fire, health, and safety. However, they identified a need to better measure and provide essential compliance information and training by using technology to improve efficiency and raise competence and compliance across the organisation.

Our ESG consulting team were hired to undertake a comprehensive health and safety audit, provide strategic guidance to managers, deliver comprehensive risk assessments across the UK and Ireland and support local managers to ensure compliance in an ever-changing business landscape.

The delivery of fire, health and safety (FHS) compliance was reviewed to include additional consulting support from a retail sector specialist, at a strategic and tactical level.

As part of a business improvement programme the decision was made to outsource fire, health and safety and partner with a reputable health and safety consultancy.

Introduction

Everything Everywhere (EE) has a heritage of innovation and was born when Orange and T-Mobile merged in 2010. Praxis42, already supplying HSE consultancy and risk assessment services to Orange, was selected to help manage EE’s health, safety and environment services across the UK telecommunications network and retail estate.

Client need

The full outsource included the TUPE transfer of employees into Praxis42 and the seamless mobilisation of the agreed contract deliverables supported by an internal subject matter expert.

The scope of the delivery comprised of developing and maintaining the EE health, safety and environment management system, at a strategic and tactical level, across 55 corporate offices and network sites and more than 600 retail store locations.

EE is the UK’s most advanced digital communications company, with superfast 4G mobile and fibre broadband services. In such a dynamic and fast paced technology business born from the merger of two companies, inevitably duplications and efficiencies were identified.

Solution

When Orange merged to become part of EE, an evolution to our outsource agreement was necessary. Praxis42 worked in partnership with EE to ensure that our HSE consultancy services were continuing to align with the changing organisation.

We are experienced in working within large complex organisations like EE and understand how efficiencies can impact positively to improve compliance and save money.

We worked with the team at EE to create a set of protocols and procedures that enabled greater insight into where compliance was being achieved and where there were gaps. The management information was then presented to those identified as resolvers who were both internal and external to the organisation.

Delivery

A record management and reporting system is a crucial tool for ensuring that compliance is continually maintained through training. Atos use our SHINE learning management system to deliver training, monitor and track trainees’ progress and send training reminders to trainees and their managers.

Headline business management reports are produced on SHINE which indicate areas of compliance. These reports are made available to senior management.

Praxis42 work in partnership with Atos’ health, safety and environment team to tailor the courses and record management and reporting system to meet their unique requirements.

Praxis42 was engaged by ITV to help design, build and deploy health and safety eLearning to 600 production staff working on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

The jungle of eastern Australia which features in the reality television programme is a challenging environment for celebrities, but also for production team members, so managing their safety and wellbeing is paramount.

Client need

ITV needed a health and safety training solution for all their production team, made up of personnel from Australia and the UK, who arrive anything from three months to just two days before filming. Before the crew start work on the Australian set, they need to be fully prepped for jungle life, including knowing how to handle a multitude of medical and safety situations.

The ITV Health and Safety team took the decision to change the induction process from previous years. There were several issues that needed resolving – crew working on site before receiving induction training, the amount of time the safety team were spending on training, difficulty with the administration of training records, and the need to ensure training would fit in with production schedules.

To remove any hurdles from inconsistent schedules and timeframes, they decided to work with us to develop an eLearning Site Safety Induction course, covering all the elements that would usually be contained in a face-to-face induction.

Delivery

Induction course content was delivered through gamification to ensure a high level of engagement. This approach also meant training was in keeping with the fun premise behind the hit ITV show. ITV’s Health and Safety team found it was the perfect platform to develop a strong safety culture within the production team.

The project not only delivered increased compliance, but it also improved operational efficiency with significant cost savings.

In fact, one of the Australian crew members said ‘Best induction I’ve come across. Other inductions I’ve done make you want to gouge your eyes out.”
