Course Overview
1. Climate change
What climate change is and the ways in which human activity is accelerating global warming.
The effects of climate change including damage to eco-systems, desertification and water shortages.
2. Regulations and duties
An employer and employee’s legal responsibilities to protect the environment, and why it is important to ensure legal compliance.
3. Waste
The three types of waste – household waste, industrial waste and commercial waste. Why waste is a concern, the impact it has on the environment and our lives and how organisations can contribute to the solutions.
4. Energy
Why we should all be concerned about energy efficiency, and what organisations can do to increase energy efficiency.
Looking at renewable energy sources, the Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) and the small everyday changes that can make a big difference.
5. Air emissions
What the main air pollutants are and the effect on humans, animals, vegetation and ecosystems.
How organisations can reduce emissions and meet or exceed legal requirements.
6. Water
What the law is surrounding water usage and pollution and the effects of water pollution.
Looking at the legal responsibilities of organisations to ensure water efficiency and prevent pollution and why this is important.

8. General noise and nuisance
The environmental impact of smoke, dust, steam, odours, noise and vibration.
How organisations are responsible for controlling this type of pollution and what practical measures can be implemented.
9. Managing the issues
The legal responsibility organisations have to eliminate, avoid or control environmental risks and why it is important to have a coherent plan.
How organisations can identify, monitor and address risks at each stage of operations through an effective environmental management system.
The importance of carrying out an environmental audit, and how to monitor and measure progress to ensure continuous improvement.
Assessment
At the end of Health and Safety Induction Training there are 10 multiple choice questions to answer, and the pass mark is 80%.
Certificate
If you complete safety induction training on SHINE, you will receive a certificate on successful completion of the course which is downloadable as a PDF file.
How is it delivered?
Environmental Awareness Training is delivered online or through a computer network to each trainee at their desktop, laptop or mobile device.
We can also provide the course to be integrated into a SCORM compliant LMS.
Training can be completed at the employee’s own pace by “bookmarking” and recording progress and returning to the training later.
