Electrical Safety Training

Our IOSH Approved, CPD Certified Electrical Safety Training is for employees who use electrical appliances and undertake or plan electrical work. The course supports employers to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. 

Each year, approximately 1,000 workplace accidents involving electricity are reported to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), with about 30 fatalities resulting from these incidents. Our electrical safety course helps to ensure employees can identify specific hazards and follow safe systems of work.

    Course Overview

    Introduction 

    Statistics to show that accidents with electricity are common.  

    Looking at the main causes of electrical accidents at work. 

    Regulations and duties 

    A duty holder’s, employer’s and employee’s responsibilities under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. 

    What electricity is and how it affects the body 

    How insulators and conductors work and what is meant by current, voltage and resistance. 

    How electricity affects the body including electrical burns and secondary injuries. 

    Electrical hazards 

    Looking at electrical hazards including electrical faults, cables and extension leads, excavating and digging, electricity arcing, rapid discharge and battery hazards. 

    Working with live electricity 

    How to stay safe when working with electricity cannot be avoided.  

    Why it is important to limit the voltage supply, and when an RCD (residual current device) must be used. 

    Covering risk assessments, gaining authorisation to proceed with work and following safe systems of work. 

    Maintenance 

    The parts of an electrical system that must be kept in good working order including portable equipment, connectors, plugs, double insulated equipment, lightbulbs, cables and electrical equipment used in flammable atmospheres. 

    The importance of maintaining, inspecting and testing electrical equipment and keeping records. 

    The types of everyday checks that should be performed. 

    Power cables, power lines and batteries 

    Precautions to take when planning excavations, working near overhead power lines and using 12-volt DC batteries. 

    How is it delivered?

    Electrical Safety Training is delivered online or through a computer network to each trainee at their desktop, laptop or mobile device.  

    We can also provide the course to be integrated into a SCORM compliant LMS.  

    Training can be completed at the employee’s own pace by “bookmarking” and recording progress and returning to the training later.
