What does PEEP mean in fire safety?
PEEP stands for Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan. A PEEP is a tailored plan that ensures the safe evacuation of individuals who may need additional assistance during an emergency, like a fire.
How long should a fire evacuation take?
The time it should take to complete a fire evacuation depends on the building type, size, and occupancy. Generally, a well-planned and executed evacuation should take no more than 2 to 3 minutes.
Do all staff need fire training?
Yes, all staff are legally required to receive basic fire safety training. This is mandated under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Do I need to be trained to use a fire extinguisher?
Yes, you need to be trained to use a fire extinguisher. Without training, attempting to use a fire extinguisher could be dangerous and ineffective.
Do you have to be trained to carry out a fire risk assessment?
The law requires that a ‘competent’ person carries out a fire risk assessment. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 define a competent person as someone who has ‘sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities to assist in undertaking the measures’.
