The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course builds on IOSH Managing Safely training, ensuring managersโ€™ skills and knowledge remain fresh, and they are up to date with best practice guidance and current legislation.

      By the end of the IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course, participants will:

      • Refresh knowledge and skills gained from the IOSH Managing Safely course.
      • Be able to apply refreshed knowledge to the Plan, Do, Check, Act model to ensure continuous improvement in an organisationโ€™s health and safety.
      • Understand current standards and legislation and how this influences health and safety in practice.
      • Understand how leadership impacts health and safety performance and what effective leadership looks like.

      Module 1 โ€“ Thinking Back

      • Reviewing legal compliance and reflecting on a managerโ€™s health and safety responsibilities.
      • Refreshing understanding of hazards, risks, risk assessments, control measures and incidents.
      • Recapping the components and principles of health and safety management systems, including policy, planning, implementation, performance monitoring and review.

      Module 2 โ€“ Leadership

      • Reflecting on the critical role of leadership in health and safety performance to protect employees and an organisationโ€™s reputation.
      • Exploring the characteristics of effective leadership and the significance of building a positive health and safety culture to influence behaviour and attitudes to improve health and safety in an organisation.

      Module 3 โ€“ Plan

      • Reviewing the process of developing and implementing health and safety policies, including setting objectives, establishing procedures, and allocating resources.
      • Examining up to date health and safety regulations and standards so participants understand their responsibilities.
      • Exploring sources of health and safety information, including regulatory bodies, industry associations, professional organisations, and online resources.

      Module 4 โ€“ Do

      • Discussing the importance of risk profiling and conducting health and safety assessments to identify hazards, assess risks and prioritise control measures.
      • Reviewing the steps in conducting risk assessments, including hazard identification, risk evaluation, control measures and risk communication.
      • Exploring strategies for controlling risks, including hierarchy of control measures, administrative controls, engineering solutions and personal protective equipment (PPE).

      Module 5 โ€“ Check

      • Considering methods for measuring health and safety performance, including accident and incident rates, near-miss reporting and compliance audits.
      • Looking at proactive monitoring techniques such as workplace inspections and observations as well as reactive monitoring through incident investigation and analysis.
      • Reviewing the process of health and safety audits, including planning, conducting audits, evaluating findings, and implementing corrective actions.

      Module 6 โ€“ Act

      • Discussing the importance of reviewing health and safety performance data, analysing trends, and identifying areas for improvement.
      • Emphasising the value of learning from incidents, near misses, and audit findings, and taking proactive steps to implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance health and safety performance.

      At the end of the IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course there is a multiple-choice assessment to complete which consists of 21 questions.

      Who should take this course?

      The IOSH Refresher course is suitable for managers, team leaders and supervisors who have taken IOSH Managing Safely training in the last 3 years.

      Course duration

      The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher online course takes approximately 6 hours to complete in the participantโ€™s own time.

      Certificate

      On successful completion of the course participants will receive an IOSH Managing Safely Refresher Certificate.

      Course Expiry

      Unassigned courses expire 12 months from purchase. Once assigned, the course remains accessible for 190 days or until completion, whichever is sooner.

      What support is available if I get stuck during the course?ย 

      All learners have access to support from our team throughout the course. For eLearning, this includes technical assistance and guidance on assessments. For virtual and in-person delivery, our expert trainers are available to answer questions and provide clarification during sessions.

      Can I pay for the course in instalments or do I have to pay upfront?ย 

      We understand that budgeting for training is important. Please contact our team to discuss available payment options, including invoicing and payment terms for organisations.ย 

      Is there a deadline for completing the eLearning course?

      Yes, learners have 12 months to complete the eLearning course, which provides plenty of flexibility to fit study around work and personal commitments.

      What if I fail the assessment? Can I retake it?ย 

      You will have two opportunities to pass the multiple-choice assessment. If you do not succeed on your second attempt, our support team or your organisationโ€™s administrator will advise you on the next steps for a re-sit.ย โ€ฏย
