Our Fire Door Inspection Services
Fire door assessments are a thorough evaluation of the condition and performance of each fire door. Our competent, qualified inspectors carry out comprehensive fire door checks to identify damage, wear, or non-compliance.

Fire-resistant core
The door leaf is checked to confirm it is constructed from an approved fire-resistant core, such as solid timber, steel, or a certified composite material. The condition of the door is inspected for damage, delamination, or unauthorised alterations that could compromise its fire resistance.

Intumescent/smoke seals
Intumescent strips and smoke seals are inspected along the door edges and frame to ensure they are present, continuous, and undamaged. Inspectors check that the correct type is fitted for the doorโs fire rating and that seals are not painted over, missing, or incorrectly positioned, as this would prevent effective sealing during a fire.

Smoke seals
Smoke seals are checked to confirm they are correctly installed at the top and sides of the door leaf and remain flexible and intact. Any splits, gaps, or missing sections are noted, as ineffective smoke control significantly increases the risk of toxic smoke spread.

Fire-rated furniture
All door furniture is inspected to verify it is fire-rated and suitable for the doorset. This includes hinges, locks, latches, handles, closers, signage, and viewers. Non-rated or incompatible components are recorded, as a single unapproved item can invalidate the doorโs certification.

Hinges, locks and latches
Hinges are checked to confirm they are fire-rated, securely fixed, and typically installed in sets of three. Locks and latches are inspected for certification, condition, and correct operation, ensuring they would remain functional under fire conditions.

Self-closing mechanisms
The self-closing device is tested to ensure the door closes fully into the frame without obstruction, slamming, or sticking. Inspectors verify the closer is appropriate for the door size, weight, and location, as fire doors must never be left reliant on manual closing.

Letter boxes
Where fitted, letter boxes are inspected to confirm they are fire-rated and incorporate intumescent protection. Any non-fire-rated letter boxes or unauthorised modifications to the door leaf are recorded as critical defects.

Door frames
The frame is checked to ensure it is compatible with the door leafโs fire rating and installed in accordance with certification or test evidence. Fixings, fire-stopping, and gap tolerances are inspected, with particular attention to maintaining a consistent gap of around 3mm and no more than 4mm.

Fire-rated glass panels
Glazing is inspected to confirm the correct type of fire-rated glass is installed as part of a certified doorset. The condition of the glass, beads, seals, and fixings is checked to ensure they remain intact and compliant.
- Integrity–only (Eโrated) glass is checked for correct installation to prevent flames and hot gases passing through.
- Integrity and radiation control (EWโrated) glass is inspected to ensure it also limits radiant heat transfer.
- Integrity and insulation (EIโrated) glass is examined to confirm it provides full protection against flames, smoke, and heat.
Any damage, incorrect glazing system, or uncertified installation is recorded, as glazing failures can lead to rapid fire and smoke spread.
