    Course aims

    The aim of the menopause course is to raise understanding of the menopause and how it should be considered in the workplace.

    By the end of the course employees will be able to:

    • Define the menopause.
    • Identify common symptoms of the menopause.
    • Understand that symptoms can vary between individuals.
    • Explain how menopause symptoms can affect somebody at work.
    • Understand an employer’s and employee’s responsibilities relating to the menopause.
    • Explain what reasonable adjustments an employer can make in the workplace.

    Course Overview

    1. What is menopause?

    Biological changes that take place during the perimenopause, menopause and after menopause.

    2. Signs, symptoms and treatments

    Common signs and symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. Treatments that may be taken to alleviate symptoms.

    3. Is it a disability?

    Legal protections for those experiencing menopause symptoms at work under employment and anti-discrimination legislation.

    4. Menopause in the workplace

    The ways in which menopause can affect somebody at work.

    Employers’ specific responsibilities towards menopausal employees.

    Employees’ responsibilities to contribute to a healthy, productive working environment for themselves and others.

    5. Support

    Examples of support measures that employers can put in place to help those who are experiencing specific symptoms.

    6. Inclusivity

    Recognising that not everyone experiencing menopause will identify as a woman. How employers can implement an inclusive approach.

    7. Signposting employees

    Sources of support employees can be directed towards. Understanding that there is no standard approach as every situation is different.

    Assessment

    At the end of the online menopause awareness course there are 10 multiple choice questions to answer, and the pass mark is 80%.

    Certificate

    If you complete the course on SHINE, you will receive a certificate which is downloadable as a PDF file.

    How is it delivered?

    Menopause awareness training is delivered online or through a computer network to each trainee at their desktop, laptop or mobile device.

    We can also provide the course to be integrated into a SCORM compliant LMS.

    Training can be completed at the employee’s own pace by “bookmarking” and recording progress and returning to the training later.
