    Why it is important to work safely.  

    Looking at key statistics to highlight the humane, moral, economic and legal costs of accidents for employers and employees. 

    Responsibilities 

    Employers’ and employees’ responsibilities for working safely. The legal definitions of ‘absolute requirement’, ‘reasonably practicable requirement’ and ‘taking care’. 

    What happens if regulations and laws are broken.  

    Accidents – causes and outcomes 

    Looking at common examples of accidents, identifying the root causes and possible outcomes. 

    Examining the series of events that can lead to an accident or loss by exploring different workplace scenarios. 

    Reporting incidents 

    Why it is important to report all incidents, including near misses and what an employer’s and employee’s responsibilities are. 

    Unsafe acts and unsafe conditions 

    Looking at the differences between unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and the personal factors that can lead to unsafe acts. 

    Risk assessments 

    Considering the purpose of a risk assessment and the key steps of a risk assessment.  

    How to measure the level of risk to decide on appropriate and proportionate control measures.

    Emphasising the importance of regularly reviewing an adequate safety management system by involving workers, providing adequate resources and seeking competent advice when needed. 

    How to investigate accidents and near misses. 

    Assessment

    At the end of Health and Safety Awareness course online there are 10 multiple choice questions to answer, and the pass mark is 80%. 

    Certificate

    If you complete this health and safety training on SHINE, you will receive a certificate on successful completion of the course which is downloadable as a PDF file. 

    How is it delivered?

    The Health and Safety Awareness course is delivered online or through a computer network to each trainee at their desktop, laptop or mobile device.  

    We can also provide the course to be integrated into a SCORM compliant LMS.  

    Training can be completed at the employee’s own pace by “bookmarking” and recording progress and returning to the training later.
