Our IATP Asbestos Awareness Course, available online or face-to-face, provides essential employee training under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

- Why asbestos can still be found in many older buildings today.
Asbestos in the body
- How asbestos fibres enter the body through inhalation, ingestion, or contact, and why inhalation is the most harmful route.
- The failure of natural lung defences to deal with asbestos fibres.
Health effects of exposure
- The potentially fatal conditions caused by asbestos – asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer, and heart failure – and the long latency period of these diseases.
Where asbestos can be found
- Key construction uses, including sprayed coatings, insulation board, textured coatings, cement products, and lagging. Examples include garage roofs, boiler flues, floor tiles, toilet cisterns, and roofing felt.

- The legal requirement to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises

Safe action if asbestos is found
- What to do if suspected asbestos is uncovered:
- stop work,
- do not disturb it,
- inform supervisors,
- restrict access,
- and arrange for testing and clearance by licensed contractors.
Types of asbestos surveys
- The difference between management surveys (for ongoing use of premises) and refurbishment/demolition surveys (before major work begins).
At the end of IATP Asbestos Awareness training, there are 10 multiple choice questions to answer, and the pass mark is 80%.
Who should take this course?
Our Asbestos Awareness IATP Course is suitable for all employees who may work in buildings or premises where asbestos could be present, as well as duty holders, managers and supervisors who have a legal responsibility to protect others from exposure.
Anyone working in buildings constructed before 2000 could be at risk of exposure and should complete asbestos awareness training.
Course duration
IATP Asbestos Awareness Course online takes approximately 45-60 minutes to complete.
How is it delivered?
The Asbestos Awareness Course is delivered online or through a computer network to each trainee at their desktop, laptop or mobile device. We can also provide the course to be integrated into a SCORM compliant LMS.
Training can be completed at the employee’s own pace by “bookmarking” and recording progress and returning to the training later.
Certificate
You will receive a certificate on successful completion of the asbestos course, which is downloadable as a PDF file.
