Legal and regulatory framework
- Key legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, ACoP L8, HSG274, and HTM 04-01 for healthcare settings.
Roles and responsibilities
- Duties of the Responsible Person, Duty Holder, and Competent Persons, including reporting and record-keeping.
Water system design and operation
- Overview of different water systems, system components, risk factors, and design considerations.
Risk assessment process
- How to conduct, document, and review a legionella risk assessment and develop a written scheme of control.
Control measures
- Strategies such as temperature control, disinfection, system maintenance, monitoring, and water testing.
Record keeping
- Maintaining logbooks, schematic diagrams, and compliance records to demonstrate due diligence.
Monitoring and inspection
- Techniques such as temperature checks, microbiological sampling, flushing, and service provider roles.
Incident and outbreak management
- Steps to take in the event of contamination, including legal reporting and liaising with authorities.
Competence, training, and auditing
- Ensuring ongoing competence through training, contractor checks, and audits.
At the end of the final module, delegates will be required to complete an assessment to pass the course. You will receive a certificate on successful completion of the course which is downloadable as a PDF file.

Course duration
Face-to-face and virtual classroom training takes 1 day (typically 6-7 hours including breaks).
